University of Dallas Volleyball concluded their 2021 season, falling to top-seeded Colorado College 3-0 in the SCAC Quarterfinal round.

The previous weekend, the Crusaders battled against Texas Lutheran University in an attempt to secure their spot in the SCAC tournament. Match one’s set scores totaled 19-25, 14-25, 20-25, with a win for the Bulldogs. Match two concluded similarly, with set scores of 22-25, 13-25, 29-31.

Traveling to Colorado Springs on April 17, the Crusaders (seeded 8th in conference play) faced an opponent with an untouched record this season, the nationally ranked Colorado College. Consequently, although Dallas saw impressive performances from players Ellise Anable (Phoenix, AZ), Dayjah Whyte (Round Rock, Texas), Cassie Dyoub (Frisco, Texas,) Larissa Ramirez (San Antonio, Texas), and Moriah Delgado (Fort Worth, Texas), the Crusaders ended the day with the sets of the quarterfinal round scoring 25-18, 25-20, and 25-19 respectively. Colorado College secured the match, advancing to SCAC semi-finals.

Head Coach Kelli Trautmann wrote in a text: “I think this season wasn’t what it should have been as far as results. We did some good things as a team; it just wasn’t consistent enough for this conference. It’s a tough conference and hopefully we learned from the challenges we faced this spring. I’m hopeful we will see better results with our performance this coming fall.”

Senior Gillian De La Cruz (Lewisville, Texas) said: “Our last few games were definitely all high-stakes, and I think it forced us to work on our mental game. Even though we didn’t see the results we wanted, I’m really proud of the resilience in our team, especially in our final match against the number one team in the nation for our division.”

De La Cruz expressed gratitude for the ability to play despite restrictions, especially after the cancellation of fall sports, and commented on her time with the Crusaders: “UDVB has a special group of girls, and every year I’ve been here on this team has been filled with so much love and joy. I love this team so deeply, and I know we’ll always be in each other’s corners supporting each other. I’m eternally grateful to UDVB for the beautiful memories and endless love. They have my whole heart forever!”
