The Drama Department at the University of Dallas is officially announcing casting for Thornton Wilder’s “The Long Christmas Dinner.” Directed by senior drama and business major Sam Chiodo, this play will be streamed online as a part of the fall 2020 Senior Studios. It will be shown with “The Man With the Flower in His Mouth” by Luigi Pirandello, directed by senior Drama major Pedro Barquin, from November 12 through 14.
In Wilder’s tender American drama, “The Long Christmas Dinner,” a loving mother and her family move to their new house in the St. Louis countryside and enjoy a traditional Christmas dinner. The dinner continues for over 90 years, highlighting the life, death and intricacies of the American family.
Mary Traylor is cast as Genevieve Bayard with Charles Mihaliak as Charles Bayard, Grace Burleigh as Mother Bayard and The Nurse, Faith Berry as Lucia Bayard, Andy Breclaw as Roderick Bayard, Rose Wingert as Ermengarde, Sebastian Luzondo as Cousin Brandon and Sam Bayard, Lynley Glickler as Leonora Bayard, John Blonigen as Roderick II Bayard and Maylis Quesnel as Lucia II Bayard.
This cast shows the intricacies of a family in every detail and allows for the audience to be brought to the table and feel like they are participating in conversation with them.
The works of Wilder shine light on our fast paced culture and how many people have lost sight of what it means to sit and enjoy the little conversations of life.
I wanted to do this play because all the little moments that you spend with your family are some of the most important moments in my life. I can remember every tea party and karaoke session I have with my nieces, because even if it isn’t this grand, life-changing event, it still makes me realize the important things in my life.
This play allows for the viewer to stop and remember all those little sweet memories that we hold near to our heart. The production is directed by Sam Chiodo. The creative team includes Set Designer Helen Maier, Costume Designer Loretta Bond, Sound Designer Julianne Wheeler, Light Designer Isabella Haser, Props Master John Muncy, Stage Manager Klemens Raab and Assistant Stage Manager Hayley Puckett.
“The Long Christmas Dinner” is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals on behalf of Samuel French, Inc.
