This past weekend, men’s and women’s soccer hit the road for the second weekend in a row, finishing up a five-game tour of away games, first facing Southwestern University followed by Texas Lutheran University.

On Friday, women’s soccer claimed victory in their match against the Southwestern Pirates. Alyssa Mencacci scored at halfway into the first half, claiming her fifth goal of the season.

Goalie Olivia Severson kept a clean slate for the remainder of the match, totaling 12 saves.

Overall, Dallas put six shots on goal, with attempts by Makayla Snow , Gigi Orozco , and Lexi Tocci .

Men’s soccer put up an equal fight against Southwestern on Friday. After two periods of overtime, the game ultimately ended in a 1-1 tie.

The Pirates scored at the 30 minute mark, while Dallas remained scoreless at halftime. However, minutes into the second half, Chima Ogueri landed one in the net, tying the score with his fourth goal of the season.

Heading into overtime, the Pirates came out strong with nine shots in overtime to the Crusader’s two.  But Goalie Caleb Strange tallied ten saves, preventing further goals in overtime.

Chase Reynolds , Jose Martinez , and Nat Kajiwara all contributed with multiple attempts each.

Women’s soccer claimed their second win of the weekend on Sunday, shutting out Texas Lutheran University 2-0.

Assisted by Orozco, Maddie Rodriguez scored at the 12 minute mark for her first goal of the season. Only a few minutes later, Mencacci followed suit with an assist for a goal by Monica O’Donnell for her second goal in two weeks.

Throughout the rest of the match, TLU only managed one shot on goal. Severson once again kept a tidy record with one save. This was the Crusader’s first victory against Texas Lutheran since 2015.

Head women’s soccer coach Lexi Stinson expressed excitement about this weekend’s performances.

“This weekend was a great weekend for us!” said Stinson.“We started conference play with two road wins. We beat the teams chosen to finish in second and third in the preseason poll. The girls have been working extremely hard and bringing a great mentality to each game.”

Men’s soccer did not experience the same outcome in their game Sunday against Texas Lutheran. Although the game was scoreless at the start of the second half, Texas Lutheran advanced in the second half, with three goals.

Texas Lutheran outshot Dallas 26-13. Although TLU carried the day, the Crusaders had strong showings, with shots on goal from Martinez, Reynolds, Ogueri, Tomas DePetris , and Hunter Haugland .

Goalie Caleb Strange tallied nine saves.

Head men’s soccer coach David Hoffmann said, “[It was a] hard game that the boys competed well in, especially given the number of injuries we have and the guys playing hurt.”

Up next, both teams head into a five-game home field stint playing Austin College on UD fields this Friday.
