The University of Dallas Women’s soccer team (UDWS) played its last Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) match this past Sunday, which proved to be their last SCAC match of the year. The Lady Crusaders fell 1-0 to Southwestern University in overtime.
With the loss, UDWS was eliminated from the SCAC postseason tournament.
The Lady Crusaders kept it a tight affair for the 90 minutes of regulation. However, six minutes into overtime, UDWS give up the game-winning goal off a free-kick.
Southwestern outshot Dallas 19-10 while Dallas had six corners to Southwestern’s three.
Southwestern’s goalkeeper was only called upon twice to make a pair of saves while the Lady Crusader’s keepers recorded eight saves. Elena Naccari started the game and played the first half, while Olivia Severson played the second half and the lone overtime period.
The loss was especially tough for the seniors, as it proved to be their last ever SCAC game.
“It was definitely a tough loss,” senior captain Lauren Hood said. “But we ended the conference season giving it everything we had. Obviously it’s not the outcome we hoped for, but we have grown so much as a team that I’m extremely pleased and can’t wait to see what the girls do next year.”
“It was a tough loss, but I couldn’t have asked for anyone to give anymore,” co-captain Mackenzie Vassile said. “The effort and heart was there, and as a senior, it being my last conference game, that’s all I could’ve hoped for.”
Although the Lady Crusaders are finished with conference play, they still have two non-conference games left this year.
First up, UDWS will travel to Fort Worth, Texas to take on Southwestern Adventist University on Thursday afternoon. They will then return home for their last game of the season against McMurry University on Saturday afternoon. This will be their senior night as well.
