Although the University of Dallas Men’s soccer team (UDMS) did not walk away with any wins this weekend, they were still able to secure themselves a spot in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) tournament.
With a tie against Austin College on Friday Oct. 21, and then a loss against Centenary College on Sunday Oct. 23, UDMS were able to clinch the sixth spot in the upcoming tournament.
Many of the players were excited about making it to the tournament while other wished that they were able to place higher in the rankings. However, junior captain and midfielder, Luke Schwarz is very proud of his team.
“The tournament is the goal for every team at the beginning of the season so we are right where we need to be,” said Schwarz. “Now we just have to go on a run and take every game one at a time.”
With seven seniors on the men’s team, they are all hoping to advance far into the tournament and do well. It is their last chance at all title, and it means a lot to many of the boys.
“[I am] super proud of the boys, the main objective for the season was to qualify for the tournament, we didn’t quite get the playoff seed that we wanted, but at the end of the day you’ve got to beat the team in front of you to move on,” said senior midfielder and team captain Ben Mannings. “Personally as a senior, and I probably speak on behalf of all of the senior players, we’re ready to just leave it all on the field and give it one last shot for the title.”
The boys have one game left of regular conference play before moving on to the tournament. They will face Colorado College at home on Saturday Oct. 29 at 3:30 p.m. They hope to end their regular season with a win to give them even more drive to do well in the conference tournament.
