A driven young team, hungry for success

The University of Dallas men’s soccer team has had quite the preseason.

With 18 new players – 16 of them freshmen – the team has a total of 39 men on the roster. And with two practices each day starting last week, they have definitely been hard at work preparing to take on the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC).

“Preseason is going great,” senior forward/winger Ben Mannings said. “We have a lot of new freshmen, which is exciting. The freshman class works really well with the system. They work really hard and are driven.”

With 16 new freshmen and a veteran team that lost just one senior last year, one could expect some frustration from the players, but there was only positivity when each player spoke about their new season.

“Preseason is going great,” freshman forward Chima Ogueri said. “It is really tough, but it is something we are all willing to work for. The returners and newcomers are all a great group of guys and really welcoming.”

“[I want to] put goals in the back of the net,” Ogueri said of his hopes for the upcoming season.

Hopefully he can achieve that to help this men’s soccer team succeed in this upcoming season.

Mannings’ goals are similar to Ogueri’s.

“[My goals are to] not lose at home, reach the playoffs and win the SCAC this year,” Mannings said.

One thing is certain: this young team has already achieved a driven mindset and willingness to work hard.

Make sure to come out and support the soccer team in the opening home game as they take on Howard Payne University on Sep. 1 at 3 p.m.
