It has been a busy season for the University of Dallas softball team. With midterms out of the way and Easter just around the corner, the Lady Crusaders have already played 20 games, and they have 20 more to go in the regular season. Their overall record of eight wins and 12 losses, and their conference record of four and four belie a season that has been full of success.

On Monday, March 14, the Crusaders snapped a seven-game losing streak with two big wins over Trinity University. The first game was an impressive display, with a final score of 8-6.

Two of the eight runs for Dallas came from an RBI homerun from junior outfielder Lyda Tesauro, who also hit a triple in the third inning. Freshman second baseman and outfielder Samantha Laberge made her mark with a game-high three runs batted in, and junior outfielder Avery Finch tied a season-high with three stolen bases.

Finch continued her success in the second game with a single to left center field that sent junior outfielder Allison Kotlar and freshman outfielder Roma Thornton home. Finch herself rounded out the final score of 3-1 when Tesauro batted her in off of a double driven to left center.

Freshman pitcher Paige Parks and junior pitcher Katie Lee were credited with the wins in games one and two, respectively, and it should be noted that together they handed Trinity two of their only three losses in conference play to date.

Following Monday’s games, the team had the week off and resumed play with a doubleheader under the lights at the University of Texas-Dallas on March 22.
