Andrei Illarionov, a former adviser to the Kremlin under Vladimir Putin, came to the University of Dallas on Oct. 28 to discuss the current Ukrainian crisis. He argued that the world order created after World War II has been destroyed with the violation of Ukraine’s border. According to Illarionov, Russia’s main goal in this potential World War IV — some consider World War III to have been the Cold War — is to divide the Western powers. One group of Western powers, mainly European, can become Russia’s potential ally or remain neutral, while the remaining powers, including the United States, Great Britain, Australia and New Zealand, must be fought. Illarionov said that Russia will continue to push its sphere of influence until the United States and other powers are willing to act against Russia with force.
