In its series against the Centenary College of Louisiana, the University of Dallas baseball team prevailed against its opponent and swept the three-game series 4-1, 2-1 and 10-3.
After senior Mark Carlson stole third, the rest of the team came in strong with Carlson and juniors Luciano Villanueva and Trevor Keele all coming home. In the fourth inning, a hit from freshman Patrick Stratton brought in sophomore Denton Martin.
The last three innings of the game were quick, with few errors on either side. Once again, junior Martin Cronin’s pitching proved an invaluable asset to the team, and his consistent accuracy and precision on the mound was a key factor to the successes of the weekend.
In the first few plays of the Crusaders’ second game, Carlson stole home to start the game off right. Centenary and UD tore through the next few innings until sophomore Rene Vargas, Jr. brought a change of pace to the game, running in on senior Alex Thornton’s hit.
In the third game, pitchers junior Jake Bruns and freshmen Cole Mordsen and William Marshall kept the other team off-base. In the third inning, Vargas, Carlson and sophomore Jacob Pierce scored separately. But the most notable moment of the game was the one in which Martin, Villanueva and Thornton scored off of sophomore Alex Benza’s triple.
The UD pitchers made quick work of the rest of the game and Pierce, Carlson, Villanueva and freshman Guadencio Lucca all ran home to end the series.
