For the longest time, Subway was one of my favorite cheap, healthy places to eat. However, after eating at Pita Pit this past week, it may have been replaced.
Pita Pit takes the idea of Subway’s “make it yourself” sandwiches and makes it even better — by putting meats, cheeses, veggies and more inside pita bread. Employees slice open the pita bread and place anything you want inside, so that it’s more than just a generic sandwich on pita.
When you order, you can either pick something from the menu or customize your own sandwich.
On the menu, Pita Pit offers a range of meat, veggie and even breakfast pitas.
Although they may seem a bit unusual, the breakfast pitas are actually quite delicious. You can order “Steak and Eggs” or “Awakin’ with Bacon” among other egg-and-cheese combinations.
Breakfast pitas are available at any time throughout the day, not just in the morning. You never know when you might have a craving for bacon and eggs in pita bread!
Pita Pit is right off of Fry Street in Denton, Texas. This may be a bit of a drive for some students (Denton is about 40 minutes from campus), but it’s worth it. Not only is Fry Street home to Pita Pit and other great restaurants, but it also offers a multitude of bars for those who are of drinking age.
Better yet, Pita Pit is open until 3 a.m. throughout the week. This means that whether it’s after a long night on Fry Street or a nice night catching up with friends in Denton, there’s one neat place that will be open in case you get hungry.
When I visited Pita Pit this past week, I kept it simple and ordered a Gyro Pita. My friend had the “Morning Glory” breakfast pita, which was incredible.
The service is quick and the staff is kind, but I do have a tip for those who visit: Make sure you know what you want before you order. As this was my first time eating at Pita Pit, I held up the line trying to decide what I wanted in my pita. The product was worth it, but I think the people behind me weren’t too happy with the wait.
Pita Pit is a nice, fast and cheap place for college students. Even though it’s a bit of a drive, it’s the perfect place to stop in and eat after a nice day in Denton.
If you visit its website at pitapitusa.com, you can order online for pickup or delivery, and you can even check a nutrition calculator to see the nutrition information for the pita you want to order.
Pita Pit is open Monday through Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 3 a.m. and on Sunday from 10:30 a.m. to 3 a.m.
