This weekend, the University of Dallas Ultimate team (UDU) went to University of Texas at Dallas (UTD) for UTD 101, UDU’s first tournament of the year. This tournament gave the team a great chance to introduce the new players on the team to tournament competition. In the Saturday morning rain and wind, UDU came out strong against the University of Texas at Austin, beating their opponents 9-7 under the leadership of the Walker and Teller brothers.
As the weather cleared, UDU continued its winning streak, defeating UTD 13-8.
After a very successful morning of games, the team played its final game against Texas Tech University (TTU). UDU fought hard throughout the game with great performances from new players Christian Gaeta, Holden Berg and Joe Archer. But, in the end, UDU was unable to take the game and lost 13-8.
Sunday morning brought UDU back out on the fields to play in the quarterfinals of the tournament. UDU started the day off against the University of Texas at Tyler and fought a difficult battle in order to win 11-10. Now in line for the semifinal game, UDU played a rematch with TTU. Through hard work, UDU kept the game close until the end, but it was not enough to win and TTU took the game 13-10. The team’s success in the tournament gave UDU much hope for the coming season.
