The University of Dallas men’s lacrosse team recorded its first win of the season over spring break against SCAC rival, Centenary College, finishing with a score of 16-8.
Leading the offensive drive was junior attack Tony Lemos, with seven goals and three assists. Lemos opened the game, scoring UD’s first three goals, two assisted by attack Andrew Kent. This was followed up by a goal from midfielder Cody Wooten at the end of the first quarter.
Matt Cyr started the second quarter off with an unassisted goal one minute into play. Wooten and Alex Ziolkowski also netted goals during the second, and Lemos scored with one second left to bring the half to a close.
UD’s defense shut down Centenary in the third quarter, allowing no goals to be scored. Lemos, Wooten and Cyr each scored, adding to the Crusaders’ lead. To finish the game, Kent, Cyr, Ziolkowski and Lemos found the net to end the fourth.
UD also faced Southwestern University at home last Sunday, losing 13-2. The team’s lack of numbers allowed them little rest for the game and took its toll as the game played out.
Lemos scored UD’s only points in the third and fourth quarters. The team will play Colorado College this Friday at home.
