This season the University of Dallas Ultimate team is reaching new heights and with each passing day grows better and better. This year has marked a turning point in the history of the sport at the University of Dallas. The team has been ranking high in tournaments, beating big name colleges, and developing as a team.
University of Dallas Ultimate took third place in a tournament Nov. 3-4 at the University of Texas at Arlington, bringing the team’s season record to 12-0 against collegiate teams. The only two losses have been to upper-level adult teams. UDU won five games at the tournament. They defeated University of Texas at Dallas 13-5, Texas Christian University 13-8, University of Texas 11-10, and another TCU team 14-12. UDU lost just once, 9-15, to the UTA Alumni.
The highlight of the weekend was the last game of pool play on Saturday against Oklahoma University. The OU team came out strong, going up 5-2 thanks to a few unfortunate turns for the UD team. Juniors Will Teller and Christian Walker changed the momentum as a very effective duo, working it up the field and making huge plays.
After playing some hard defense, however, and setting up an extremely effective deep game, UDU took half 8-7 with a layout grab from alumni Jonny Wilder. OU fought back to take the lead 9-8, at which point soft cap went on. The teams traded to 10-9, but UDU tied it up at 10, and then broke with freshman Adam Brill’s double happiness score for the come-from-behind win.
