The 2012 men’s soccer season began on Sept. 1. The team had been training since Aug.19, with two practices a day untilAug.29. This year, the team brought in 11 freshmen to replace the six seniors who graduated last year. These freshmen have made a huge impact on training and promise to play a big part in the success of the team this season.
The team is captained this year by senior Joey Killion and vice-captained by sophomore Matt Wise. Returning again as coach of the Crusaders is David Hoffmann.
Regarding the upcoming season, Hoffmann said of the team’s prospects, “We have been looking good throughout the preseason sessions, and I think we can do well this year. This new group of freshmen can add a lot to our team. We just need to make sure that we go out there and give it everything we have, and I’m hoping that will get us to the conference tournament and eventually the NCAA tournament.”
Hoffman also had some new ideas regarding the shape of the team. “This year, I’ve decided to try something a little bit different with the formation,” he stated. “It requires the boys to be moving around the field a lot and shifting positions.”
The Crusaders will have a tough schedule this year, playing the likes of Colorado College, Southwestern University and the perennial powerhouse Trinity University. But with this year’s team, all are optimistic that the Crusaders can handle the challenge and go far.
