The University of Dallas women’s lacrosse team is off to a decent start to the 2012 season, winning the opening game of the season against LaGrange College in Georgia. Junior midfielder Mary Salotto put away seven in the net as the Lady Crusaders went on to win the game 14-10. Freshman Allison Fox contributed with four goals, and Anne Belton, Mary Hilker and Rose Sweeney each had one goal.
Sweeney had four ground balls and senior midfielder Katherine Dautenhahn had two.
Unfortunately the ladies were not able to carry the fire into their next game, the home opener. They lost the match to Millsaps College 17-13. Millsaps went ahead by four at the end of the first half and retained their lead through the second half. Again Salotto had an impressive game, scoring six, with two assists, 17 ground balls, and 16 draw controls. Fox put another four in the net, senior Becky Williams scored twice, and junior Juliauna Rossi had one goal.
A week later the Lady Crusaders were not able to regain any momentum and were shut down by women’s lacrosse powerhouse Colorado College. They were severely outmatched and lost the game 17-1.
The only goal came from Salotto.
The next game was a much-needed improvement for the ladies. They beat Mount St. Joseph College 15-10.
While they were able to notch off a road win in Ohio, their next game against Oberlin College was a disappointing loss. The final score was 16-9. The Lady Crusaders were down by only three at the end of the first half, but Oberlin rallied and scored 10 goals to win the match. Salotto slipped five past the net, and Teresa Tesoriero, Jana McConville and Belton each contributed a goal.
The ladies are now 2-3 and looking to improve their record with a win on their home field this Thursday against Plymouth State.
