Last Thursday, the University of Dallas softball team took on Oklahoma Christian University in a doubleheader matchup. Despite the Lady Crusaders’ best efforts, they lost both games, 12-3 and 9-0.
The first game got off to a promising start when senior Jessica Mollner homered in Dallas’ first at-bat of the game. With two outs in the first, freshman catcher Taylor Garcia singled up the middle. Junior Brittany Castro was the next to step up to the plate, and she drove a two-run homer over the wall. When the first inning ended, the Lady Crusaders had a 3-0 lead.
Freshman pitcher Jillian Loukanis was able to hold the Oklahoma Christian hitters scoreless through the third inning, but in the fourth inning they managed to score one run. In the fifth and sixth innings, Oklahoma Christian added 11 more runs on 11 hits. Loukanis allowed four earned runs on nine hits in 4 1/3 innings pitched. Senior pitcher Liana Revelas stepped in to throw the last 1 2/3 innings, allowing five earned runs on six hits. After the first inning, Dallas batters drew three walks but only managed one more hit, and the game ended with a final score of 1 2-3 in six innings.
In the second game of the day, the Lady Crusaders struggled on offense, with a total of two hits and two walks in the game. The start again went to Loukanis, who threw a complete game, allowing nine runs (eight earned) on 13 hits. The final score was 9-0 over five innings.
The Lady Crusaders will take on Howard Payne University, Rust College and the University of the Ozarks this coming weekend at home in the University of Dallas Invitational. Come out and support your team!
