University of Dallas Ultimate begins two-a-days

Winter at the University of Dallas is the start of something new for everyone: a new semester (in Rome, perhaps), new classes and of course a new year.

For the university’s Ultimate Frisbee team, it was the start of a new tradition – UD Ultimate two-a-days. For many members of the team, this new tradition was a perfect start to a new semester.

To some of the students at UD, the Ultimate team is that group of people who, every Friday, throw discs around the mall, occasionally hitting fellow students and passersby.

However, UDU is much more: Besides being the only co-ed club of the two club sports on campus, UDU is a great way to make good friends, have fun and exercise.

The Fall Romers returning to campus for the two-a-days were pleasantly surprised by the size of UDU, which has doubled in number in the recent semesters.

The schedule consisted of daily Mass, a morning practice, lunch, afternoon practice and finally a team dinner and hang-out.

The pre-semester activities were organized in a way to ease back into Ultimate after the long Christmas break, leaving ample time for the Fall Romers and freshmen to meet as well as spend time with the departing Spring Romers.

On the last night we had a barbecue, elected new officers and handed out awards. Sarah Kuntz, Gretchen Baldau and Cooper Johnston were recognized for their effort, spirit and determination.

Elections were held, and Chris Dowling became the new president, Alex Lemke the treasurer, and Lauren Baldau and Brigid McMahan the publicists. Will Teller and Alec Thie stepped up to the positions of captains, now that our beloved Walker Brothers are studying in Rome.

UDU is preparing for upcoming tournaments. Home games and other club events will be advertised around campus.

This semester we are looking forward to representing the University of Dallas in an Ultimate way.
