“Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle.” Plato’s words of wisdom, found on the back of the 2011 BOB t-shirts, serve as an invitation for all University of Dallas students to rock out to a night of musical talent this Saturday from 7:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. at the Battle of the Bands.

Freshman Abigail Borah is excited for her first Battle of the Bands. “I’ve heard so much about this event even before attending UD, especially because it’s such a tradition. And at UD, as everybody knows, we’re all about the tradition. Not to mention I absolutely adore music, and so many students that I know here are involved with a band. I really want to hear their music, so I cannot wait.”

And many older students will be attending the event to cheer on their friends and classmates. Senior Steven Lester remarked, “There’s plenty of musical talent and appreciation at UD, and the Battle of the Bands is a perfect way for the students to have the chance to take the stage.”

Senior Ethan Munsill, drumming away for six years, will be playing his fourth and final BOB this Saturday evening. “I’m a little sad it’s my last year,” he admits. “All the same, the Battle of the Bands is a great event. We’ve been able to maintain a strong music community.”

As always, the beer garden and food will be open and sold from 8 p.m. until midnight. The top two performers will play at Mallapalooza, and there will be many a talented act. So get ready for an awesome lineup of entertainment and music.
