The University of Dallas cross country women placed fourth and the men came in fifth at the Division III State Cross Country meet in Abilene, Texas last Saturday.

The day began bright and early at 4 a.m. when the team boarded a bus headed for Northwest Texas. Eight universities competed against each other in the meet.

The race began with the women’s 6K, followed by the men’s 8K. Both the men and women ran a flat, grass course which ran along three large ponds, complete with a two-mile outer loop. The UD women’s top finisher was Meghan Falconer, who came in 12th at 24 minutes, 37.06 seconds. “I thought [my finish] was pretty sweet,” said Falconer.  “If my shoe hadn’t come off, I would’ve done a lot better. There were a lot of fast girls there.”

Rachel Oleksiak (25:16.62) and Catherine Sercer (25:33.31) came behind Falconer at 16th and 22nd place respectively. Catherine Hand (26:02.87) and Laura Redlinger (26:14.35) filled out the women’s top five scorers.

Men’s top finisher was Phil Wozniak with a time of 29:23.01. Cody Wooten came behind at 27th place with a time of 30:13.45, followed by Clinton Heyer (30:20.86) and Alex Bukaty (31:10.72).

Last week, the women placed third overall, and the men placed fifth overall at the University of Texas Tyler Invitational. This Saturday, the team will be competing at the University of the Ozarks Invitational in Clarksville, AR.
