Article 1: 

The Name of the club shall be: Student Leaders for Racial Solidarity 

The purpose of the club is: 

● To promote a community that is collaborative in its efforts to love each other as brothers and sisters created in the image and likeness of God, according to the Great Commandment. 

● To embrace and celebrate all cultures, races, and ethnicities, according to the universality that the Christian faith was founded on. 

● To further “the pursuit of wisdom, truth, and virtue, [all while] fostering principled, moral judgment” and civil conversations that employ the charitable language of healing and reconciliation. 

● To increase awareness of, and appreciation for, students of color and their issues, histories, and cultures among the student body at The University of Dallas recognizing both that such experiences are complex, multi-dimensional, and worthy of authentic dialogue, and that human beings are not defined or restricted by their race or ethnicity. 

● To develop and promote concrete opportunities for campus and community involvement in the lives of all students, regardless of race. 

● To coordinate cultural events and conversations on campus that would celebrate the diverse cultures present in our university community, in accord with UD’s statement that “the University of Dallas celebrates and appreciates the diversity of our university community.” Included in these events would be opportunities to learn about minority experiences in America, including but not limited to Black, Hispanic, Indigenous, and Asian experiences. 

● Provide a collegial, non-partisan community on campus which will help students acquire a mature understanding of the nuanced racial and social issues arising in our “problematic and ever-changing world, [encouraging all UD students to] become leaders able to act responsibly for their good and the good of their family, community, country and church.” 

Article II: 

Membership: Any student currently a member of the Associated Student Body of the University of Dallas may join. 

Officers: By the fourth week of the new school year, members shall nominate club members for the following positions: President, Vice President, Public Relations, and Advancement Officer. No person shall hold more than one office. Elections are held by secret ballot. A simple majority is required to elect an officer, provided that there is a quorum.

Officers shall serve for the school year, and, if possible until a new officer is elected the following year. In the case of a vacancy occurring during a term of office, an interim officer will be appointed by the remaining officers in consultation with the club advisor. 

Officers shall perform the following duties and meet the following requirements: 

President (must be a Sophomore, Junior, or Senior, or Graduate student at the time of the election): 

a. Schedule and chair meetings. 

b. Coordinate cabinet, activities, and lead club. 

c. Approve of guest speakers. 

d. Maintain communication with other officers. 

Vice-President (must be a Sophomore, Junior, Senior, or Graduate student at the time of the election): 

a. Chair meetings in President’s absence. 

b. Serves as Club Treasurer. 

c. Coordinate closely with other officers and sponsor regarding fundraising events.

d. Delegate club spending and budgeting. 

Public Relations Coordinator (must be a Sophomore, Junior, or Senior at time of election and must have strong writing and communication skills): 

a. Acts as club secretary during meetings. 

b. Communicate regularly via school newspaper, weekly bulletins, website, etc. the goals, activities, and issues of the club. 

c. Chair the publicity committee. 

Advancement Officer (must be a Sophomore, Junior, or a Senior at the time of the election): 

a. Work with the Office of Student Affairs to coordinate campus activities and community involvement outreach. 

b. Work closely with the public relations committee and oversee the orientation committee. 

c. Research scholarships, grants, and other post-secondary opportunities and communicate them to club members. 

Article III: 

An Association Student Body (ASB) representative shall be appointed by the SLRS Cabinet, in consultation with the Advisor, whenever possible before the first general ASB meeting. The duties of this representative shall include: 

● attendance at all ASB meetings.

● presenting club issues or concerns to the ASB Executive Board. 

● giving the ASB report at club meetings. 

Article IV: 

The Student Leaders for Racial Solidarity shall be supervised by The University of Dallas staff member at all times. The advisor’s primary function is to support the students and to approve all proposed activities taken before the student council or the school administration. The advisor needs to be present at meetings when advised by the president or vice president. The advisor must be approved at the end of each school year by the majority of the group, or a new one can be elected. 

Article V: 

A member may be expelled from the club for violating any major ASB regulation or major school or district rule. 

Article VI: 

For any major decision, including, elections, guest speakers, fundraising, or events, two-thirds of all members must be in agreement, along with the agreement from the advisor or president. 

Article VII: 

If the President or Vice President happens to be graduating next year, they can continue their position if they are enrolled in the graduate program the following year. If not, new officers will be chosen by the current president, vice president, and advisor. This selection is based on who is best fit to uphold the integrity and constitution of the club based on performance, character, and recommendations from fellow officers, club members, and advisors.

  1. Good for you. There is no reason for this group not to be approved. The struggle is real. Please do not give up.

  2. This club is necessary to help UD grow. Racism and other forms of prejudice is a reality to students on campus, and there needs to be an outlet not to explain but CELEBRATE differences in culture and race. Godspeed in your new ministry!
