The University of Dallas men’s soccer team evened their season record to 2-2 after a close 1-0 victory over Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) opponent Centenary College of Louisiana. UD now holds a 1-1 record against SCAC opponents.

“This is a big result; the boys have set their sights on winning the championship,” Head Coach David Hoffmann said. “We didn’t have the second game the rest of the league has had, but this win moves us from outside of the playoffs [and] into them.”

The two squads totaled 41 shots, 13 on goal, in the contest, with Dallas numbering 31 of them. In the 89th minute, freshman midfielder Jose Martinez scored the first goal of his collegiate career that clinched the win for Dallas.

Sophomore Chase Reynolds and junior Hunter Haugland led the Crusaders in shots, with eight and six, respectively.

Sophomore goalkeeper Sean Carlin saved all four of Centenary’s shots on goal, earning his second clean sheet of the season.

This is UD’s third straight contest ending in a 1-0 score, and the first of those three ending with a Crusader victory.

“It was a real relief,” Hoffmann said. “To get [a goal] that late in the match and one of such quality is a great boost.”

UD has now won their last eight straight matches against Centenary.

Men’s soccer travels to Austin College for their next match on Sept. 21, and returns home to the Crusader field on Sept. 28 to compete against Schreiner University.

“Austin College is always a challenge,” Hoffmann said. “For many of the alumni this is a rivalry game, one they always contact me about.”

The match against Austin College will be UD’s third SCAC contest this season.
