The University of Dallas women’s basketball team revealed their scoring power this past Wednesday in their opener against Dallas Christian College, prevailing with a score of 70-45.
The game was close in the first two quarters, with UD maintaining a six point lead going into the second half.
The Crusaders pulled ahead in the third quarter, outscoring the visitors 26-13. The home team did not let up for the remainder of the second half, going on a 9-0 run in the last two and a half minutes of the contest.
Sophomore guard Celsi Caraway, freshman forward Jules Oiveti, and senior forwards Helen Onyenso and Michelle DeCoud all scored double-digit points. DeCoud led scoring with 19 points.
Onyenso led the way in rebounds with 11, and sophomore guard Panda Green notched a career-high 10 assists.
The Crusaders capitalized on offensive mistakes from Dallas Christian, scoring 23 points off of 35 turnovers.
“It was great to compete and continue to learn how to work together on Wednesday night,” head coach Lacey Burns said. “First game jitters are out of the way.”
With impressive play from the starting five, UD received noteworthy contribution from the bench. The four non-starters combined for 20 points. Oiveti led the scoring from the bench with ten points in her collegiate debut.
The Crusaders host their next home game on Nov. 30 against the University of the Ozarks at 5:30 p.m.
