The University of Dallas women’s soccer team (UDWS) suffered a heartbreaking loss to Austin College on Sunday afternoon. The game seemed destined for overtime until the Lady Roos scored in the 88th minute to win the game 1-0.
UDWS was outshot 19-8, but were able to put more of their shots on goal than the Roos. However, they were not able to find the back of the net after 90 minutes in the back and forth affair.
Elena Naccari and Olivia Severson split time in goal, each recording two saves while Elisa Duran led the team with three shots on goal. Whitney Jackson recorded two shots on goal.
“It was an unfortunate outcome, because we truly worked as a team,” Naccari said. “We played simple, good soccer and it didn’t go in our favor. That being said, we will go into our last weekend of conference play with a strong mindset and hunger to come out of the weekend 2-0.”
“[The team is] trying to stay positive and get some wins,” Lauren Hood said. “[It was] an unfortunate loss today, because we were the better team, [but] just couldn’t put away our chances.”
The next few games will prove crucial to UDWS as only four points separates 4th place from 7th place in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC). The Lady Crusaders currently sit in 6th place. Some positive results for UDWS this coming weekend will help to solidify their spot in the post-season tournament as the top six teams qualify for the tournament.
The Lady Crusaders will return home on Friday, Oct. 20 to play against Texas Lutheran University at 4 p.m.
