The University of Dallas men’s basketball team lost both their away games this past weekend to Southwestern University and Texas Lutheran University (TLU).
Friday’s game against Southwestern was a tightly contested match, with both teams trading leads throughout both halves until Southwestern pulled away with a 22-8 run in the final eight minutes.
Saturday’s loss to TLU, which saw UD fall into a 23-41 deficit from which they never recovered, officially eliminated the Crusaders from the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) tournament, and now they are focused on ending the season on a high note.
The boys have three games left — one conference and two non-conference — this upcoming weekend. Their final home game, at which they will honor their four graduating seniors, will be held on Sunday, Feb. 19 at 3 p.m.
“I am disappointed with the losses this past weekend, but I am looking forward to our games this upcoming week,” sophomore guard Darrius Colvin said.
Colvin made the team-high in rebounds and assists in Friday’s game and was one of two players who scored double figures on Sunday.
“I want us to get a win for our seniors on their senior game and end this season with a ‘W’,” Colvin said.
“This weekend was tough,” senior guard Victor Garate said. “We didn’t get the results we wanted but we played hard and stuck together. This next weekend will be our last games of the season so we’re looking to end the season on a high note.”
Garate will be honored at the upcoming senior game, along with classmates Michael Sarrat, Lorenzo Gonzalez and Tom Kaiser.
The Crusaders are looking to end their season with a winning three-game home stand for their seniors and their fans. After Tuesday’s matchup against Arlington Baptist College, UD will face its final conference foe Colorado College on Saturday, Feb. 18 at 3 p.m. and conclude its season Sunday against Hendrix College.
