In the interest of not failing Senior Novel, I continued the search for the perfect Dallas coffee shop. One candidate, the West Village establishment Sip Stir Café, is situated in a residential area on McKinney Avenue.

A counter inhabits the center of the café, while booth and chair combination tables line the edges. Ample seating provides many spots to study with free (albeit slightly slow) Wifi.

Though the café is comfortable, the décor is not cozy. Its crisp and functional interior, though, facilitates completing work.

Two baristas help customers decide what coffee to purchase by giving tastings and answering questions. As their website states, they are “a community coffee bar, which places an importance on relaxation and conversation.”

When visiting a new café, in order to evaluate the coffee before even sampling the beverage, one ought to notice the coffee machine. Sip Stir features a La Marzocco espresso machine, one of the finest and most common brands in the industry.

The selection of coffee and teas competes with the best, as does the cafe’s arsenal of coffee-brewing methods. An especially interesting contraption, the Kyoto cold-brew, sits on the counter and looks like an hourglass for coffee as the liquid slowly drips down.

The cappuccino was well poured, and the espresso, as advertised, featured caramel undertones with no need for sweetener.

A wide selection of loose leaf teas ensures options for non-coffee drinkers, and the tea comes in glass containers, which add to the modern aesthetic. Blended “frosted” drinks offer a sweet, dessert option, and various syrup flavors can be added to any drink.

Fresh pastries delivered daily supply a small snack or treat to survive an afternoon of study or to enjoy with a friend. Some sweet selections include an orange ginger muffin and lemon ricotta cookie.

While the desserts are tempting, savory options include ham and cheese croissants — a great pick-me-up for any point in the day.

This café should be added to everyone’s list of great, off-campus study spots.
