Do you like music? Dancing? Chili? If so, you’re in luck, because this Saturday you’ll be able to get all three at the Battle of the Bands.
From 5:45 to midnight, students can come see their classmates release their inner rockstars. Ten student bands have signed up for the competition in order to show off their skills. The grand prize for the winning band is the opportunity to play at Groundhog next semester.
“There are many opportunities for student musicians to exhibit their musical skills on a small scale,” said Alex Macdonald, the SPUD Musical Entertainment Coordinator, “but Battle of the Bands is a unique opportunity for larger student bands to play on the big stage and also gives the student body as a whole a fun concert.”
If that isn’t enough of an incentive, Student Government will also be hosting its Chili Cook-off at 8 p.m., so students will get to eat some delicious food. Macdonald said that everyone should come out to support their fellow students and to have a really fun night.
“Battle of the Bands is really basically the fall version of Mallapalooza, meaning it’s a really great time for anyone who likes music, dancing, people or beer,” he said. “It also is great to be able to come out and support our fellow students who are in the bands, so everyone get out to the Mall early so you don’t miss any of the bands!”
