This weekend the Lady Crusaders played spectacularly in the Big Apple. The softball team defeated the Sarah Lawrence Gryphons from Bronxville, N.Y., on Saturday in a non-conference doubleheader, 18-0 and 27-0.
In the first game, the University of Dallas came out ready to sing and dance, with the girls leading 6-0 after the second inning. Freshman Erin Begle and junior Christy Allen hit back-to-back home runs over the fence. The Crusaders sustained their initial momentum to the game’s end, winning 18-0.
But the team did not stop its conquest there. In the first inning of the second game, sophomore Taylor Garcia hit a grand slam for a 4-0 lead. Garcia went on to hit yet another home run, and UD trounced the Gryphons with a 27-0 victory.
After enjoying a night in the glamorous lights of Times Square and exploring New York City, the Lady Crusaders were ready for the encore.
On Sunday, in a doubleheader, UD swept the Gryphons 22-0 and 14-0. Freshman Nicole Frazier pitched all four games beautifully and hit her first career home run. Frazier attributed her success this weekend to “playing together and having loads of fun in the Big Apple as a team.”
In total, the softball team scored 12 home runs this weekend, a testament to a phenomenal team effort. As of this weekend, the women have earned five wins this season. They hope to continue their big hitting performances against SCAC rival Centenary College of Louisiana on Wednesday.
