On Friday, March 1, the University of Dallas women’s lacrosse team traveled to Shawnee, Okla. to take on the Bisons from Oklahoma Baptist University.
On a very cold day in enemy territory, UD was able to edge out OBU in overtime. The game was hard-fought by both sides, with the score at 6-6 by halftime.
In the first half, the girls were ready to take on the Bisons and scored fairly quickly. Scoring in the first half was done by: freshmen Anastacia McCrorey, Hayley Rodgers and Mikayla Tolley; sophomore Mary Hilker; and senior Julianna Rossi. The Crusader defense was able to hold the Bisons to six goals.
In the second half, the girls continued to bring their game to OBU in the cold and windy weather. Rodgers, Tolley and Hilker all scored again in the second half, along with senior Irene Harris. The team’s defense held OBU to five goals. In the second half, neither team was able to gain momentum over the other, and the regular time finished with a score of 11-11. This ushered in two three-minute periods of overtime.
In the first three-minute period, UD scored twice while holding OBU scoreless, bringing the score to 13-11. In the second three-minute period, OBU scored once, but UD came out triumphant by the end. Both sides of attack and defense played well throughout the game. This was the girls’ first win for the season, giving them a record of 1-3.
