Women’s basketball gears up for tournament

Having finished the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference regular season games, the University of Dallas women’s basketball team traveled to play the top two teams in the conference before the tournament next weekend.
Friday, Feb. 15, the Lady Crusaders found themselves behind the Southwestern University Pirates 34-29 at halftime. The Crusaders gave up 39 points in the second to lose to Southwestern 73-55. Junior guard Christina Kurt led with 24 points.
The Crusaders battled the Trinity University Tigers Saturday, Feb. 16. The Crusaders faced a tough opponent, as Trinity still remained undefeated in the SCAC. The Crusaders were behind 34-31 at halftime but allowed the Tigers to score 48 points in the second to reach an 82-68 victory. Senior guard Kylie Yoshimura led with 22 points and 8 assists. Junior center Christy Allen contributed 16 points and 15 rebounds.
The Crusaders enter the SCAC tournament Feb. 22-24 as the fifth seed to take on Centenary College of Louisiana. UD went 1-2 in the three-game series against the Ladies during the regular season. Tip-off will be Friday, Feb. 22, at 1 p.m. at Austin College in Sherman, Texas.
