The University of Dallas men’s basketball team traveled to Sherman, Texas, this past weekend to play two games. The first was against East Texas Baptist University. The Crusaders were able to outshoot their opponents in the opening half of the game, with a field goal percentage of 44.8 percent as compared with the ETBU team, which shot 31.4 percent in the first half.
The game changed after that, with ETBU shooting 50 percent on 38 shots, while Dallas was only able to shoot 34.5 percent of 29 shots. Senior Drew Assinesi led the team with eight assists and junior Ross Davidson recorded 10 rebounds. Kerry McClahan of ETBU recorded 12 rebounds. The Crusaders lost 69-80.
The second game, played on Saturday against Millsaps College, was much lower-scoring. Millsaps was able to establish a big lead going into halftime with a score of 32-18. Throughout the game, Dallas had a much higher shooting percentage, but was unable to get enough shots off to overcome its rivals. Sophomore Blaine Blackburn was able to post four offensive rebounds. Additionally, sophomore Kym Malone was able to steal the ball twice from Millsaps. This was not enough, however, and Dallas lost to Millsaps by a narrow six-point margin, 46-52.
