This past weekend, the Lady Crusaders faced their opponents at home. Friday night they played Howard Payne University in a tough match. The Lady Crusaders fought hard, although they lost in four sets (18-25, 22-25, 25-20, 23-25). Despite the loss, there were a few outstanding performances. Freshman Jaime Birzer was a key offensive player, with 13 kills for the match. Supplementing Birzer’s kills, senior Theresa Wohldmann was on fire offensively and defensively, totaling 21 kills as well as 20 digs for the match.
The match on Saturday morning was against Dallas Christian College (DCC). The Crusaders had already played DCC this season. The Lady Crusaders played as well as they did during their first performance by winning in three sets (25-15, 25-18, 25-16). Later that day, UD faced LeTourneau University. This was a challenge for the Crusaders; they had to learn to fight through their mistakes. Freshman Hailey White was a crucial component of the team. In three sets, she passed 21 digs and had two service aces. Birzer again totaled 13 kills for the Crusaders. These performances helped boost the Crusaders toward the win (25-16, 28-26, 25-19).
Next weekend brings more conference games, so the team must work hard in practice this week to prepare for them.
