On Monday, Sept.17, the Lady Crusaders volleyball team traveled to Texas College for a single match. Winning in three sets (25-14, 25-15, 25-19), the team had to clean up some sloppy play from the first game, then took an early lead in the second game, and finished off the third game fighting for every ball.
This past weekend was the start of conference play for University of Dallas. Taking on the newcomer to the conference, Centenary College of Louisiana, Dallas won the match with enthusiasm, focus and good plays made by all (25-14, 25-18, 25-15). The team had to rest up after the match to prepare for the next day’s matches against two tough competitors, Trinity University and Southwestern University. The first match of the day, versus Trinity, was hard-fought. The lead went back and forth, but unfortunately UD fell short in three sets (23-25, 20-25, 21-25).
The final match was against the home team, Southwestern University. Despite the large crowd, the girls stayed focused and won the first set. They had to keep the momentum for the next game, but SU came out strong and took the lead quickly. UD had to fight for every point for the rest of the match and, while still improving in many ways, the girls lost the next three games and were not able to pull out a win (25-21, 17-25, 18-25, 17-25). The team’s conference record is 1-2, but the intense matches this past weekend showed the girls that they need to be playing their best volleyball and making the plays they need to make in key situations if they expect to win.
The ladies will play at home this weekend, so be sure to come out and support them on Friday, Sept. 28, at 7 p.m. and Saturday, Sept. 29, at 11:30 a.m. and 3 p.m.
