This past weekend, the University of Dallas cross country team traveled to Sewanee, Tenn., for the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Cross Country Championships.
Of the 11 teams that competed, the women finished in ninth place overall, and the men placed 10th. The weather was very cold and slightly windy as temperatures hovered around 33 degrees. Teams ran on a smooth course that was slightly hilly, marked around a large golf course. The women ran a 6K, while the men ran an 8K.
“[The race] was fantastic,” said senior Heather Capozzella. “The trees were all changing colors, and it was very pretty.”
Freshman Meghan Falconer was the fastest runner for the women. She came in 42nd place out of 97 runners with a mile time of 6:42. Junior Clinton Heyer was the fastest runner for the men. He placed 59th out of 90 runners with a mile time of 6:01.
“We had a great season,” said Coach Dore Madere. “I am very proud of my team for all of their hard work.”
The cross country team will compete again in the NCAA Southwest Division III meet on Nov. 12.
