Core Decorum

Dear Decorum,
I have a horrid habit of cursing when I’m frustrated or irritated. I’m aware that the words are offensive to most people, including myself. I’ve tried to stop, but it’s not easy. Any clean words of advice?
-Foul Mouth

Dear Foul,
Here’s one idea: Make a list of silly words and use those as substitutes. Find ones that sound somewhat like the offensive words. “Oh, fudge” may be one of the top examples. People  often do this to avoid offense or to use cute replacements.

In fact, the absurd words will inhibit your impulse to curse. Furthermore, ask your friends to hold you accountable; if they find your language to be offensive, then they should help you come clean.
